My name is Bob Melvin. I am the Vice President of Engineering at Teledyne Marine Systems. I received an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the Rochester Institute of Technology and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maine. I hold three patents in signal processing and two in oceanography. Teledyne Marine Systems is comprised of five companies, each with its own engineering departments. I am responsible for overseeing engineering at all companies and maintaining their Knowledge Based Product Development process and knowledge library. I consider myself a practical engineer, always looking for ways to improve myself and the company.
I wrote my book, after years of encouragement from Jim Jacobs at The Savvy Consortium, and started this website to share my discoveries as we adopted the ideas captured by Allen Ward and Michael Kennedy. Along the way, we found ideas that worked and ones that didn’t. Watch my blog as we continue to explore new ways to develop products that match our customer’s interests and work the first time.
